RealRating Privacy Policy

RealRating ("the extension") shows you what a place on Google Maps would be rated if the reviews it had deleted for defamation were counted. This policy sets out what it does with your data, which turns out to be a very short story.

The short version:

Nothing is collected. RealRating has no servers, no accounts and no analytics. It does not make a single network request.
Nothing is stored. The extension keeps no database and writes nothing to disk.
It only reads the page you are already looking at. The rating, the review count and Google's note about removed reviews are all visible on screen before the extension touches them.

What RealRating collects

Nothing at all. The extension does not collect, store, transmit or sell personal data. There is no account to create, no sign-in, no telemetry and no advertising.

What it reads, and when

When you open a place on Google Maps, RealRating reads three things from that page: the star rating, the number of reviews, and the note Google shows about reviews removed after defamation complaints. All three are already displayed on screen. The extension does the arithmetic in your browser and writes the result next to Google's note.

None of this leaves your device, because the extension has nowhere to send it.
If you type numbers into the toolbar calculator, they live in that popup only and are gone the moment you close it.
The extension keeps no history of the places you look at.

Permissions, and why they are needed

Host access to Google Maps (google.com/maps, maps.google.com, and the .de, .at and .ch equivalents): to read the rating shown on the page and to display the adjusted rating there. The extension runs on Google Maps and nowhere else.
activeTab: when you open the toolbar popup, it reads the rating from the tab you are currently viewing so the calculator starts with the right numbers. No other tab is touched.

RealRating requests no other permissions, and it contains no remote code. Everything it runs ships inside the extension package.

What RealRating does not do

No accounts, sign-in or user tracking.
No analytics, telemetry, advertising or fingerprinting.
No network requests of any kind, so nothing reaches the developer or anyone else.
No access to any website other than Google Maps.
No writing, posting or reporting of reviews on your behalf. The extension only reads and calculates.

A note on the numbers

The adjusted rating is an estimate. Google never reveals how the deleted reviews were rated, so RealRating shows a likely range rather than claiming a precision it does not have. It is there to give you context, not a verdict on any business.

Changes

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change and the new version will ship with the extension.
